We have all been there: new to a big college, don't know many people, wanting to make friends, getting lost at every corner, wanting to reach out for help but not knowing exactly how.
As more experienced students, we should do more to help first-year students navigate college so they don't feel alone. Here are a few ways I think we can support our younger peers.
1. Be open/approachableÂ
This means introducing yourself to the student and offer your help.
2. Answer their questions
Allow them to ask as many questions as they want because the more they know. the easier it will be for them to get around campus and know what is going on.
3. Try to develop a friendship Â
Ask them questions and try to get to know them better. This would be easier for them to talk to you. Also, exchange contact information so whenever they may have a question they can ask you. A beautiful friendship can come about from just being there for someone.
Remember, this is a cycle and we've all been at the bottom, so help people help people.
