Camping is a hobby (or obsession) held by many across the globe. There are many types of campers; some prefer minimalist camping (see: backpacking), while others prefer a more glamorous approach (see: glamping). Wherever your camping style falls on this spectrum, this list is sure to provide inspiration for your next outdoor adventure. (Product links can be followed by clicking photos.)
Cooking
1. Biolite Camp Stove.
The BioLite CampStove generates usable electricity for charging LED lights, mobile phones, and other personal devices. Burning only wood, the CampStove creates a smokeless campfire that can cook meals and boil water in minutes. Setup is easy, fuel is free, and flames are hyper-efficient with performance on par with white gas stoves.
2. Sterno Stove.
A much cheaper camp-stove, the Sterno folding stove, can be bought at Walmart for $4.88 and used in conjunction with Sterno Canned Heat.3. KA-BAR Tactical Spork.
Make eating when out in the field simpler with the Ka-Bar Tactical Spork. Constructed from heavy duty materials to withstand extreme conditions, this utensil is highly versatile. The thick, rounded handle gives you a comfortable grip when using the spork end. The long handle can be separated to reveal a small knife, giving you two utensils in one. When not in use, the knife is securely and safely stored within the Grilamid handle. Grilamid is a thermoplastic material with low moisture absorption, good bending strength and a high heat distortion temperature. Durable and easy to use, this convenient utensil is perfect for any outdoor adventure.Hydration
4. Nalgene.
With its selection of durable, BPA-free bottles in hundreds of size, shape and color options, Nalgene is killing the hydration game. I personally own three, and I love them all.5. Hydroflask.
With its many (customizable!) options, Hydroflask has a shape reminiscent of a Nalgene with the promise to keep hot drinks for six hours, and cold drinks for 24 hours.
6. YETI.
Made of 18/8 vacuum insulated steel walls, the Yeti rambler comes in many sizes, and will also keep your drink as hot or cold "as science allows," making it perfect for your next camping adventure.
7. LifeStraw.
LifeStraw is ideal for hiking, backpacking, camping, travel, and emergency preparedness. The straw-style filter design lets you turn up to 1,000 liters of contaminated water into safe drinking water.Tools
8. S-Biner.
S-Biners bring brand-new innovation to the traditional carabiner. Backpacker Magazine said it best when they wrote, "Don't ask yourself if you need this useful little widget. The question is: how many?"9. Swiss Army Knife.
Those who need to be ready for anything take one of these with them everywhere. Since 1897, the Swiss Army Knife has been a trusted tool of adventurers around the world. Whether you’re exploring the city, the ocean, the mountains or even space, the Swiss Army Knife is the companion you can count on.
10. LuminAID.
It's not hard to see why these inflatable solar lights are a bright idea. Originally designed to help with earthquake relief in Haiti, these lights were featured on reality investment show Shark Tank and have quickly become a camping favorite.Apparel
11. Chacos.
All hail the king of camp counselor footwear. Chaco was founded in 1989 to produce footwear for white-water rafting guides, but has gained popularity in recent years. The durable footbed and sole are sure to carry you across any terrain, from the beach to the mountains to the concrete jungles of the city. (I have done 10-mile hikes in mine, comfortably.)12. Waterproof Socks.
These socks, while not a camping essential, will keep your feet warm and dry while wading through streams and creeks. While they are on the expensive side of things, their practically is not to be denied.13. Shemagh.
A shemagh (šmāġ) can be used for AT LEAST 33 different purposes, as seen above.
