Russell Westbrook is the starting point guard of the Oklahoma City Thunder. He just signed a three-year extension with OKC. The rumors of his going back home to Los Angeles or going to the Boston Celtics can be put to rest. Now, his signing shows that he is prepared for the next step in his career— being the primary leader for his team. The choice that Russell made shows how much he cares about the origination and the team surrounding him. With OKC being a young team, he's the future, especially with their trading for Victor Oladipo and draft picks. The organization of OKC now can build their team around Westbrook to help them win NBA Championships. Now OKC will not have to worry about two superstars being complimentary to each other.
This was a deal that worked out for OKC because they do not have to rebuild their team through the draft. With Westbrook staying now they can see how much of a leader he is by himself since Kevin Durant went to the Golden State Warriors. This a great time for Westbrook to stop the criticizers of his game for this upcoming season. People say that he is not a true point guard and takes too many shots. Now that perception will change because of the lost of KD. These years will be great for him to grow because now he can mature as the point guard of the team. Being the point guard he will have to learn to trust his teammates especially without having a scorer like KD on the team no longer.
As a fan of the NBA it will be great to see how singing that three-year extension will turn out for OKC and Westbrook himself. Just waiting to see how Westbrook will handle the team by himself since KD left. It was one time in his career he had to lead OKC without KD but they failed to make the playoffs. This time it will be for the entire 82 game regular season without him. The best thing that OKC has done so far to support Westbrook is that their team is young. A team that is young has time to grow and may be able to last compared to an old team.
