5 Supernatural Quotes That Will Give You Major Encouragement

The Winchesters and their ever-changing ensemble of friends and family have been on our televisions for fourteen seasons now. As they are filming their last adventures, I thought it would be nice to reminisce on some of the lessons the cast of Supernatural has taught us over the years, and maybe a few of the funny moments, too.

“Saving people, hunting things. The family business.” - 01.02

Of course, I had to start with this one. This quote is basically the foundation of the show, and this is its first appearance. Sam was hesitant to join Dean in his search for their dad, but after all, it is the family business. This episode and many more that followed in this season reminded me that maybe going back to my hometown and doing what I did when I grew up is not always a bad thing. Imagine where we would be if Sam decided not to go back to the family business!

“It doesn't matter what you are. It only matters what you do. It's your choice.” - 04.04

In this particular episode, a man has just been changed into a rougarou but has not eaten yet, so there is still a chance for him to save himself. We all have a choice every day to be a new person, a better person. We shouldn't take advantage of that.

“You don't stop being a soldier 'cause you got wounded in battle.” - 05.07

Setbacks will happen, and sometimes they might take a while to climb over, but that is okay. You cannot give up because of heartbreak or a mistake. Your purpose is worth more than a mistake, no matter how bad it may seem in the moment.

“Decide to be fine until the end of the week. Make yourself smile, because you’re alive and that’s your job. Then do it again the next week.” - 07.11

This might be one of the most insightful things ever said on Supernatural. Life gets tough for all of us, but at the end of the day, we are alive. We made it through and we can make it through again tomorrow, and eventually, next week.

“Earth can be a hard place, but these humans, they can get better. They're just doing the best they can.” - 09.06

Even the Angels know we're just doing the best we can. Some days, your best might not feel like a lot, but that's okay. Some days you may feel like you want to torch everyone, and that is okay, too-as long as you don't actually do it. Earth is a hard place, but we can make it better together. We can be better.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
