To The Superheroes Who Don't Own A Cape

Everyday, we are surrounded by incredible people. We are surrounded by superheroes everywhere we go, whether we take the time to realize it or not. Everyone around you has a superpower, it doesn't matter what it is. Maybe the person next to you in class is a really great listener or the person behind you in line has a really awesome taste in music, or the person cashing you out at the supermarket can come up with the perfect sandwich for you at Subway. Even you, reading this! You have a superpower too. There is something spectacular that you can do to better this world. You may not even realize that you have a superpower, but I can guarantee that the people in your life realize your gift and they know that you are a superhero.

I know that there are days when you don't feel as "super" as you once were, but that's okay. Every superhero movie has a dark time when they aren't feeling up to par, but they overcome it in the end. And so can you.

Now on the subject of superheroes, we need to discuss "kryptonite" because every superhero in history has a weakness at one point or another. Superman had kryptonite, Batman has a slight pride issue that gets in his way, Wonder Woman can't have her bracelets tied together, and the list can go on and on. But when a superhero comes across a weakness, they still prevail in the end.

Who cares about the superheroes in the movies? They have nothing on you and the light that you bring into this world. They are second-rate because they are only in the movies. You are in the movies, in the streets, in real life. You are tangible and you matter. You take up space and that space is filled with positivity and superhero awesomeness.

You don't need a cape to be a superhero, you just need to be yourself because you are a superhero to someone. Someone loves how you smile or how you laugh. You are a superhero who defies the laws of being a superhero. Because you don't need a cape. Now go out and be the best you that you can possibly be and be that superhero for everyone you come across because you never know who exactly needs saving.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
