Super Smash Bros. Melee is one of the best fighting games to date, in my opinion. The game allows you to battle it out as your favorite Nintendo character like Mario, Link, Kirby, and Pikachu. That's just four of the characters out of 26 playable ones. Melee to me has been such a release and a blessing in a way. Smash in general has just been such a creative, fun, and competitive way of making friends and some enemies.
Melee was created by Masahio Sakurai, who also created Kirby, and was released in 2001 for the Nintendo Gamecube and it immediately took off after following Super Smash Bros. 64. When I first played the game I had items on high, CPU(Computer Bots) set to 5, and I was Samus. I played an array of characters but I used Samus the most. I smashed and threw and won every time unless I played my older brother. I never took the game seriously until recently. Senior year of high school I dug up my GameCube and found smash. I started messing around and I thought to myself "Do they have tournaments?" and that's when I opened up to the world of Competitive Super Smash Bros. and got introduced to players like Mango, Mew2King, Hungrybox, Armada, and Haxx$. Some of these players are considered "Gods" which means they are ranked to be the best in the world. That's the moment I started taking this shit seriously. My playing changed immensely and my hands began to move as fast as go go gadget hands.
I've been playing for three years. During my freshman year of college I played with my friend Jack. He mains Dr. Mario, which means that's the character he uses the most and has the most skill with. He recently switched to Mario. Almost everyday we would have a match and the saying "one more game" became 100 more games. I main Captain Falcon due to his speed and power and style. I've never had so much fun practicing something than smash with my best bud. Since my love for the game started with tournaments, I began deep research. I found The Sweet Spot in Lawrence, Ks. This was it! This was my chance to show my moves and beat some ass!!
I lost, hard. I found daily tournaments, and I keep loosing. To this day, I keep loosing and loosing and loosing. But I never quit. I never give up. I keep attending and I keep moving forward. And it's kind of relative to how I live my life. My life has had many mistakes and I've lost a lot of myself but I never give up and I never stop moving forward. Smash has taught me that loosing isn't just being last. It's trying your best and being yourself and never giving up.
