What is Disney's recipe for success?

As we get closer and closer to the release of "Infinity War"it seems that DC comics has been left in the dust. Not only did Justice League not meet many expectations but also got some rough rotten tomatoes score of 40%! Many assumed that after the wonder that was the wonder woman that DC was in good hands. Marvel, on the other hand, seems to have success after success.

So what is it that Marvel is doing that DC can’t? Is it that the juggernaut that is Disney has launched what has seemed to be a superhero franchise that cannot be defeated? Can Warner Bros even think to outsmart Disney and Kevin Feige? Who knows.

What I do know is that after 11 years, everyone and their mother will be heading off to the theaters on April 26th to see their favorite superhero take on Thanos. Marvels family-friendly angle not only appeals to younger audiences but also attracts older generations to the theater due to marvels light-hearted humor compared to the DC universes dark aspects. Yes, the Justice League did have more of a light-hearted theme to it.

Though I don’t think it was for the better. Attempting to beat Marvel at its own game will not only be ridiculous but might even prove fatal for DC movies as we know them. I for one love DC's darker edge and think they should stick with it, though that quality is what will inevitably turn the younger audiences away from them at the theaters. Not all, but most. Especially if DC continues to make their animated movies rated R.

In my personal opinion, Marvel might have better movies overall, but DC has the better material. The Batman comics alone have more memorable villains than all of the Marvel movies combined. Yes, Loki is a fan favorite, heck, I love him too. But there is no way he can compete with the complexity and depth that is the Joker.

Why choose sides when we can have both, right? So as the next few weeks pass after we all sit down and watch "Infinity War," what will be Warner Bros next move? The next movie we have from the DCEU will be "Aquaman" and who can resist Jason Momoa shirtless? I know I can’t, so as a hard-Core DC fan I will be there. The real question is how will they make a splash in a way that Marvel hasn’t already? And how will we relate to Aqua Man in a way that we hadn’t got to in the JL?

As aconnoisseur of comics my wallet is constantly empty as long as creative minds have the ability to make bomb material I won’t have money for a while. I will be spending the next couple of weeks praying that both Steve Rodgers and Tony Stark make it out alive, just as I know many of you will be doing.

So many questions, though we have so much time.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
