The stage is set! Sunday night ended the final round of the NFL playoffs before the Super Bowl that's set for February 4, 2018, at U.S. Bank Stadium, and we now have the matchup for the Super Bowl now fittingly billed “America’s Game.”
After a comeback victory against the Jaguars, the New England Patriots look to defend their NFL championship from last season, but they’ll have their hands full in this one versus a team that appears to be their perfect match.
Coming off of a dominant 38-7 blowout victory against the Minnesota Vikings, whose defense was ranked number one this year, the Philadelphia Eagles return to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 2004 season where they competed against, you guessed it, the Patriots. But the result of Super Bowl LII may be different from the last time these two battled on the biggest stage, and I don’t think Tom Brady will like it.
In 2005, the Eagles choked away what would have been their first Super Bowl victory and ended up losing to New England 24-21. As someone who has spent his whole life living in South Philadelphia, you can imagine how heartbreaking it was to get so close and fail. This year, however, can be our year for vengeance and Eagles’ fans (and players) everywhere are more than excited to play the Patriots in the Super Bowl again.
The Philadelphia Eagles may have lost their first two Super Bowl games that they’ve appeared in, Super Bowl LII could be an entirely different case. The Eagles have the best coaching staff that they have had in years-- too long for us Philadelphians to remember!
Headlined by Head Coach Doug Pederson, the Eagles’ coaches have shaped this roster into one of the most dominant in the league! Many NFL experts have called the Philadelphia Eagles one of the deepest rosters in the league and that’s been on display since Carson Wentz tore his ACL and backup QB Nick Foles stepped into the spotlight.
For the people who have watched the Eagles all season long, it’s easy to get your hopes up for the Super Bowl this year, but let’s not forget who we’re dealing with. The New England Patriots, a team that has been in seven straight AFC Championship games and three out of the last four Super Bowls, are arguably one of the most dominant teams to play in the league under Head Coach Bill Belichick’s system and Tom Brady’s leadership...not to mention his arm!
Super Bowl LII will mark Brady’s eighth Super Bowl appearance, and it’s going to be a hell of a game. The 2017 Eagles may end up being New England’s toughest Super Bowl opponent yet, though, with their stellar run defense, pass rush and secondary looking to hit the target that they’ve painted on Brady’s back over and over again.
And remember, with the exception of Wentz, this is still the same offense that was blowing teams out by the end of the first half in almost every single regular season game.
Both teams earned a 13-3 regular season record and the number one seed in their conference as a result of their dominant play, but there can only be one winner in Super Bowl LII, and you can bet your bottom dollar that each team will turn Minneapolis into a war zone when they meet on February 4th in U.S. Bank Stadium at 6:30 p.m. EST.
Will Tom Brady win his sixth ring? Or will the Philadelphia Eagles bring their first Lombardi Trophy back to the city of Brotherly Love?
What do you think?
