I’m sure we’ve all heard of Galentine’s Day by now, but if you haven’t, and are unsure as to what I’m talking about, I will quote Leslie Knope of NBC's "Parks and Recreation" for you: “Oh, it's only the best day of the year. Every Feb. 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and just kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies.” Sounds like a pretty good holiday to me. Here are five fun ways to celebrate with your lady friends.
The best part of Galentine's Day is enjoying brunch with your gal squad. It's an obvious first choice because that is, after all, what Leslie and her lady friends do. Go grab a bite with your gals and chat about whatever’s going on in your life! Catch up! I happen to like doing this the best, and I make sure to eat waffles as another homage to Leslie Knope.
In honor of the most feminist holiday of the year, you should take the time binge on a marathon of "Parks and Recreation."If brunch isn't really your thing, it's ok that you’re not a fan of frittatas. But watching a large heaping of Leslie Knope and friends is a pretty good way to spend some time with your lady pals. Or switch it up with some "Broad City," another one of Amy Poehler’s amazing projects.
If you and your friends aren’t ones for a delicious morning brunch or vegging out in front of the TV then celebrate later in the day! Go out! Take some shots, dance the night away (and only dance with each other). Make sure Nicki Minaj and Beyonce are on your pre-game playlist.
What better activity to celebrate womance than crafting with friends? Peruse Pinterest and pick out some cool DIY projects. Make a birdhouse. Decorate a picture frame. Make coconut oil shaving cream, strawberry teeth whitener and some homemade soap. Sew a pillow. The possibilities are endless!
Before the end of this holiday of feminist friendship take a moment to get real. Whether it's asking advice of your friends or bestowing it upon them, there isn't anything wrong with getting real. Open up to your friends about whatever has been bringing you down lately. This is a holiday where women support other women. There's nobody like your friends to pick you up when you’re feeling down...or to set you straight.
Here's to a whole day of ladies celebrating ladies.
