SUNY Brockport Tops Charts

Number one in our hearts and number one on the charts.

Dollingers Inn and Suite

The College at Brockport has an obvious charm that can almost immediately attract any potential student. From the newly renovated Special Events Recreation Center (SERC) to the suite style dorm options, the college is very appealing to students. Parents often gleam with pride when sharing which university their child attends, some say this is especially true if their child attends Brockport.

While Brockport has found a special place in the hearts of many, it is also finding a place in the rating charts of all SUNY schools. The College at Brockport recently placed first in the categories of "Athletic and Recreational Facilities," "Campus Center and the Student Union," and "Personal Counseling Services." As a student of the College at Brockport, I happily agree with all of these ratings, but I’ll back up my opinion with some visuals for you.

Below is the SERC, which houses the athletic facilities at Brockport.

This is the basketball court located inside of the SERC.

This is part of the fitness center that is available for student use every day of the week and sits in front, an upper level of the SERC. As you can see, there is a wall full of windows that give a great view during a workout.

This is the field house located inside of the SERC.

This is part of the ice arena located within the SERC, as well.

Below is the entry way to the Seymour Student Union. Which hosts many events and programs for students throughout the semesters. Also located inside is a Subway, The Union Square (food court,) Jitterbug's Cafe, the Barnes and Nobles campus bookstore, Brockport Student Government, 89.1 The Point (the college radio station,) The Stylus (the college newspaper,) and more.

Don't forget to grab your free popcorn on the way out (or in)!

Unfortunately, I can’t give you a visual on how wonderful the counseling services are, so here’s a picture of another beautiful part of the campus to hold you over:

Along with placing first, Brockport also placed second in ‘Recreational and Intramural Programs’ and ‘Library Resources.’ These I can also vouch for.

Many of my peers participate in the college’s Intramural Programs and there are many to choose from. Some examples include Flag Football, Basketball, Broomball, Dodgeball, Wiffle Ball, Kick Ball, etc. I also know many students participate in the Recreational Programs, including myself. These include over 20 Club Sports, Instructional Programs, Group Exercise Classes, the Eagle Bike Share Program (allows students to rent a bike for free,) etc. These programs usually take place in the SERC or the Seymour Union (as mentioned above.)

The Drake Memorial library also deserves some attention. The library has a warm welcoming atmosphere that can instantly put a person into work mode. There are 3 floors that house computers, printers, lots of books, personal study rooms, computer labs, classrooms, and thankfully the Aerie Cafe.

Oh, and did I mention the gorgeous, peaceful rooftop garden that leads to the entry?

I would highly recommend The College at Brockport to anybody looking to continue their education or any current college student looking for a change and so would the SUNY ratings. So, why not give it a second look?

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.
