Throughout my life, my moles along with sun marks have been tested and executed from my skin.
Skin cancer runs in my family and last year I finally started taking it seriously when my mom had to have a serious cancer mark removed from her head. I also realized that as you grow older, affects from the sun such as wrinkles, dark spots, sun spots, moles, and more will start to kick in. Since then I've been trying my hardest to wear sunscreen as much as I possibly can to keep my skin and myself happy and healthy!
Skin cancer is an underrated and serious condition that you should try and prevent the best you can. This summer I've been taking extra care of my skin by using my sunscreen in replace as a body lotion in the mornings, making sure my skin is protected for the strong summer sun. By using so much sunscreen, (mostly popular brands of sunscreen such as Neutrogena, Aveeno, Banana Boat, and Coppertone), I have been spending a lot more money than needed.
There has been controversy about store brand sunscreens such as CVS, Target, Walgreens, etc. not working or being as good as other sunscreens. So I decided to test it out and see if taking the cheaper route is a better or worse route. So I started buying store brand sunscreen such as CVS brand to save money.. I invested in CVS SPF 30, and so far it has protected my skin just as much as the expensive popular brand sunscreen! I even put the CVS SPF 30 on one leg and Neutrogena SPF 30 on another, and they worked the same! The experiment lead to equal coverage on both legs. So now I've been saving money by buying the less popular brands such as CVS, Target, etc. over popularized brands!
So that answers that controversy, but since your probably interested in sunscreen information, seeing how you've read through this article, here are alone facts about sunscreen that might help you when choosing the perfect product!
SPF 50+
It is scientifically proven that there is no such thing as a higher SPF than 50. So when you see a bottle that says SPF 55, SPF 70, or anything over 50, it's false advertisement so do not pay more money for it!
EWG Healthy Living
There is a group called EWG. The Environmental Working Group’s mission is to 'empower people to live healthier lives in a healthier environment. With breakthrough research and education, we drive consumer choice and civic action'. They have a website (EWG.org) as well as an app (EWG's healthy living) where you can look up, scan, and see how healthy sunscreen and other beauty products, as well as food are for you! They give details on why each product is rated a 1-10! So far it's helped me a lot in deciding what to buy to stay healthy!
Sunscreen Only Goes So Far.
If you really want your skin to stay healthy and happy, then wear hats, protect you eyes with sunglasses, and try and stay out the sun for long periods of time as much as possible!
Sunscreen Won't Protect You From The Tanning Bed!
Wear as much sunscreen as you want, but as much as you would like to get tan, I highly recommend not stepping foot into a tanning salon! I made this mistake once and I regret it so much after what my dermatologist told me and what my body looked like after! Even when wearing sunscreen into the tanning bed, I had double the freckles after three visits to the tanning salon for five minutes each time. Imagine what a daily, weekly, monthly, or even yearly trip will do to your skin?! I don't know about you but I'd rather be healthy and good looking for years over being unhealthy, having risks of skin cancer, and looking 60 when I'm 40.
I hope this article helps you and your wonders on sunscreen and protecting your skin. Lately I've had this obsession with keeping my skin healthy and looking beautiful and young, and so far it's working great! Sunscreen is a huge step to beautiful, healthy skin!
