When the sun comes out and the weather turns a little bit warmer, we tend to forget to put on the daily sunscreen before walking out of the door. Just as important as daily exercise and eating healthy, skincare tends to be neglected, especially during the summer months. Here are a few reminders to think about before going out in the blistering sun.
1. Wear your skincare
Wearing sunscreen on your face daily is highly important, rain or shine. It prevents premature wrinkling and sunspots and lessens the chances of developing skin cancer. A minimum SPF of 15 to 30 on the face is recommended by many dermatologists. Try to avoid chemical sunscreens if you have sensitive skin as they contain chemicals that can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions. At the end of the day, make sure to take off the sunscreen and put on a nourishing face moisturizer, as sunscreen can tend to clog pores and be irritative to the skin.
2. Drink water
It is important to stay hydrated in the heat, so drink up! It is recommended to drink at least eight eight-ounce glasses of water, or half your body weight, a day to keep skin hydrated, as the skin is the most important organ in your body. Drinking enough water every day also helps keep your body normally functioning and your joints well lubricated.
3. Moisturize that skin by lotioning up
From jumping into a chlorine pool or salty sea water and constantly reapplying sunscreen, sometimes it is easy to forget to moisturize your skin on the daily. Coconut oil and Shea butter are great skin moisturizers for your body. Coconut oil also can act as a sunburn reliever if you cannot find aloe vera in your medicine cabinet.
