He told her she was sprung
Like a flower bud
that had just been watered
He watered her and gave her sun
She was growing taller and brighter
Lovelier and wiser
The watering slowed down
It became cloudy for a long time
She became doubtful and afraid
He pushed her too far away
“Stop trying so hard,” he said
Her heart sank
“Cut your losses”
It sank even more
“You’re sprung on me; love you can’t see. There’s another guy for you, but it’s not me.”
Sprung she might’ve been
And hung she might seem
But it’s not her, she's over it
It’s her heart
that’s hung on a string
