There are countless quotes and philosophies comparing life to climbing a mountain. It is a well-known fact that scaling the heights of your local fourteener is no simple task. In order to reach the summit, you should prepare extensively, both mentally and physically. The same goes for the more difficult aspects of life. Whether your "mountain" is earning an A on your statistics test, getting over a breakup, meeting new people, or even raising your hand in class, all of these goals are attainable and totally worth working toward. With that said, here are a few steps to take in order to achieve your goals and reach the pinnacle of your very own mountain.

1. Work Out

When preparing to hike a difficult trail, it is always a good idea to work out a bit to prepare your body for what is to come. However, this step does not have to be physical in the traditional sense. If you have a big exam you want to ace, study for it. If you want to learn how to make a new food, find the recipe. Start by knowing what you must achieve, and then make a plan to follow through.

2. Stock Up on "Granola Bars"

Every good mountaineer knows that sustenance is key in order to make it to the top of a mountain. The same goes for reaching your goals. Working towards something for a long period of time can be draining and exhausting. Don't forget about your other needs and desires. Getting all-consumed by this process is not healthy or productive in the end. It is important to reward yourself for the steps you have taken towards your aspirations. Treat yourself to some ice cream every once in a while if that's what you need!

3. Push Yourself

It can be easy to give up on an especially tricky part of the path or a roadblock in your attempts to attain an objective. It may feel like all the work you've put into this particular desire isn't worth it anymore, or that your dreams will never become a reality. However, it is up to you to push yourself past this state of resignation. The peak is more than likely just over the next ridge! You can do this!

4. Celebrate

Once you have found yourself gazing down at the path you have just taken, whether that be from the top of a literal mountain or from the glorious vantage point of newfound happiness, you should celebrate! Take a selfie. Go out to dinner. Hang up the award you may have won, and revel in your success. You should be proud of yourself, no matter what your goal is or how you achieved it. You did it!

5. Repeat

Allow yourself to glance across the valley at the next peak you plan to conquer. Pick a new goal and work towards it. Keep striving towards greatness and you will achieve it no matter what you do!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
