Summertime Gladness

My summer has had it's ups and downs, but I never want it to end.

July 8th, 2017.

It's been almost two months since I got home for the summer. It's been one of my best summers ever. I have reconnected with so many friends and grown stronger with those who stand by me. It's weird to think that 2017 is already halfway over, and so is my summer.

Of course, this summer hasn't been completely perfect. I've lost a couple of friends who I used to consider my best friends. However, it's taught me a valuable lesson. It's shown me that not everyone will be around forever, and you have to cherish the time you are given with someone.

I also had one of my best friends hospitalized this past month. She went in for bronchitis and ended up being diagnosed with pneumonia. There was standing liquid in her lungs, and it had to be drained. Luckily, she is out and okay; but it was a tough time for her.

Of course, there have been some good and big things that have happened so far this summer. I got a boyfriend! I honestly could not be any happier with him, and I hope with all of my heart to keep making amazing memories with him. I also got a tattoo, making my count 4. It's one of my favorite tattoos, and I could not have asked for a better artist to do it.

Lastly, I made my first real "adult" purchase. I bought my first car! It's a 1996 Ford Mustang. Sure, it's not the best car, but it makes me proud to think i saved up the money and was able to afford my own car.

I can not wait to see what else this summer has in store. It's been a a roller coaster so far; and I don't want this ride to end.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
