As we begin to reach June, every Michigander is on the edge of their seat awaiting the warm weather, trips to the lake, or just being able to drive with the windows down. As summer rolls around many groups are starting to plan their trips and what they will do this summer. Michigan has a lot to offer from lake parties to relaxing and adventurous get a ways!

Below are five must dos for every Michigander in Michigan!

1. Jobbie Nooner

It is know as the Marti Gras of the mid-west! Head out to Lake St. Clair’s Gull Island to kick off the summer. A day full of sun, fun and booze (maybe a little more, too). Yes it is on a weekday, but that is the point, skip that day of work they do not need you!

2. Pictured rocks

Take in the beauty of pictured rocks. Head up to the UP to take in these breathtaking rocks. Don’t own a camper? Not an issue! Stay at one of the many cabins in the campgrounds that line Lake Superior and the beautiful rocks or you can always “rough it” in a tent on one of the camp sites! Enjoy fresh air, hikes, swimming and kayaking!

3. Bud Bash Houghton Lake

Many Michigan residents know about I-75 exit 227, but what some may not know is the party that Bud Bash brings to this area. When Bud Bash happens, thousands crowd on and around Houghton Lake. For the crazy party, the sun rays and some good beer (must be 21). Don’t have a house on Houghton Lake? No worries. There are lots of houses for rent along with the local hotels you can stay at! Oh, you need a boat, too -- you can rent one for the day or the weekend. Bud Bash is one event you won’t want to miss!

4. Mackinac Island:

“Mack-in-ac” to those who don’t live in Michigan. But us Michiganders know that Mackinac Island is pronounced Mack-in-aw Island. Truth is told some Michigan residents have never visited the beautiful historic place home of the world’s best fudge. On this island no cars are allowed. Let's face it, you probably need the workout, you can travel by foot or you can rent bikes. If you get tired, no worries, you can always take a horse and buggy to your destination!

5. Relax and enjoy

Most of all, take these two and a half months you have of “summer” and enjoy them! Blast "All Summer Long" - "It was summer time in northern Michigan" with the windows down! We don’t get sunny and 75 all 365 days of the year. So, lay out on that lawn chair, explore new places and take some time for you. Because before you know it, it will be fall, then winter.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
