Summer in Rhode Island is approaching, which means food, food, food! Just in case the many mouth-watering signature Rhody foods have somehow slipped your mind, here's a small reminder...

1. Del's Lemonade

Del’s frozen lemonade is the one and only signature drink of Rhode Island. With three different locations around Rhode Island, in North Kingstown, South Kingstown, and Coventry, it is the ultimate summer drink.

With 7 different flavors, locals, and tourist are always lining up to get their Del’s. Whether at the beach or hanging by the pool, everyone here in Rhody knows that when you see the “Opening Soon” sign posted in the shop window, you know that summer time is right around the corner. It is the perfect cool-down drink with the right amount of ice and equal amount of sweetness. But with this drink comes one very important stipulation:

Here's a tip for you tourists who come to Rhode Island for the summer: we locals NEVER drink Del’s with a straw. If you do, you are basically submitting yourself to being stared at…by EVERYONE. So, if you want to be like a "local", don't use a straw. We always know the true Rhode Islanders from the tourists.

2. Block Island

The Block is always a must see place. Filled with beaches, gift shops, and Ballard Beach. Whether you go by foot, bike, or moped, you will for sure enjoys the adventures of the great outdoors.

3. Brickley's Ice Cream

If you're having a craving for ice cream, Brickley's is the place to go. Here in Rhode Island, both locals and tourists know that when summer comes, you should expect to see everyone and anyone getting their daily ice cream fix at Brickley’s.

For you first-timers who get to experience Brickley’s, here are just a few little tips…

Tip #1: Theyonly accept cash, so don’t try t

o pay with a credit card, because then you will get stuck in a sticky situation. Even as a local, I have forgotten about this minor detail once or twice and was happy to know that there are still generous people in this world who are willing to help a girl out even when she does forget that credit cards aren't accepted. Oops!

Tip #2: Their milkshakes are called "cabinets", but you don’t have to abide by the rules. Just know, people will definitely be able to tell the locals apart from the tourists; it becomes pretty obvious after awhile

Tip #3: Never forget to post your “first of the season picture”, because like we all know it never happened if it wasn’t posted on social media, right?!

4. Newport Cliff Walk

A great place to enjoy a picnic or simply take a stroll and enjoy the great scenery Newport has to offer. Not only do you get to enjoy the scenery but on the drive in you experience some of the most beautiful houses this state has to offer,

5. Iggy's

The one thing New England is known for, and something everyone has to experience when they come to Rhode Island, is the amazing clam chowder (or "chowder", as we say here in Little Rhody) and clam cakes at IGGY'S. You get good food at an inexpensive price, and always remember to leave room for dessert. Try out their famous powdered sugar doughboys: fried dough that is not too greasy, just the right amount of powdered sugar, and a little bit of cinnamon (it’s like the ultimate cheat day to the max).

6. Providence WaterFire

A family friendly environment and something for the whole family to appreciate. Not into the whole family scene? That is okay, the WaterFire has a large section for adults to relax and hangout. From the various different food vendors or great listenings of live music.

So, visit, enjoy, and don't forget to insta!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
