Let's face it, you've been so excited for the past four weeks of the semester to come home and not be in class. No tests, no notes, no studying. However, there are a few things that can be a bit of a challenge when coming home for the summer...
1.) Permission Issues
Coming home from college can be a bit of a culture shock every summer. You've just come out of a 9 month school year where you can basically do whatever you want whenever you want. So coming home and having to ask permission to do things can be a bit of a struggle. You can't sleep as much as you want or stay in bed all day on a Sunday if you are expected to do things with the family or whatnot. I mean, you've spent the past year (s) becoming a self sufficient adult and now you have to ask permission to do certain things. A bit rough if I do say so myself.
2.) Boredom
Evwn the smallest of college campuses have something going on every night. If for some reason it really is a dead night, there are always tons of people to see or hangout with. So coming home from the summer can be sooo boring. There aren't tons of people or events in your house or even in your community. So you work or spend time with family, which is really great and all, but coming home for the summer will always be a bit more boring than being on campus. Very different environments.
3.) There is literally nothing for your age group.
If you're like me, and come from a very small town, there's nothing to do for your age group. If you're not into drinking or partying, you're that person who will probably spend every Friday and Saturday night on the couch watching the newest episode of The Bachelorette or reading a book. If only there could be like leagues of co-ed sports for people our age or something, anything, geared toward entertaining the young adult group. Not only would this also help the boring aspect of summer, but would also keep alot of college students out of trouble.
4. Your friends are so far away.
Sure, you've got a few friends from high school still, but everyone you've gotten close to usually lives quite a distance away. Yet another culture shock, since at one time they were three steps away from your dorm room door and now they love three states away. You would be completely fine if they lived an hour or two. If so, it would be so much easier to visit and kill the summer boredom. Shucks.
5.)You're still broke and busy.
It would be so great to do so many thingsthings with your friends over the summer. Go to amusement parks, go on a vacation together, go on shopping sprees. But you have to save money for expenses at school the following year. And even if you diddid have a little extra to do something with your friends, someone from your friend group will always have to work the day everyone else is available...and it will probably be you. And when you have a day off? Everyone's working or on family vacation so it is back to watching The Bachelorette or going fishing or whatnot by yourself.
