Summer, Where Are You?

I need more warmth, and less stress.

We've reached the wall. Some people have spring break that they are enjoying, or looking forward to still, but for the most part we are at our breaking points.

College students, you know what I mean.

The weather? Cold, dreary, maybe some snow (but not enough to get a day off, of course). Assignments? Piling up. Your room? A complete mess of things you are too tired to put away or want to take home before it is move out time. Your closet? Full of sweaters and hoodies you are tired of wearing, with tshirts and shorts buried away waiting to be worn. Morale? Very low.

Everyone is getting sick, again, because no one has the time to sleep and eat healthy. Everyone is sick of each other and wants to either go see a beach or their dog. Before every class you pray that your professor cancels, even if there is no reason to. And you are running very low on any money you accumulated over winter break.

Spring break is just that, a break, and its exciting and its a small bright spot, but it is still so far from the light at the end of the tunnel. Summer is what we need.

Summer. Full of bright sun and warmth. You have actual free time that does not require you pretending that you do not have an assignment due. You either go home and see all of the friends, and pets, you have been missing, or at least have some days off to go visit them. Should you have assignments, odds are the number of them is reduced because you are not taking a full semester's course load. And you have time to work, and make money, that does not require you sprinting from class and changing in a bathroom before to be able to squeeze in a full shift.

So, summer, where are you hiding? Do you have a secret button I can push to fast forward? I am not the homesick type, but I am the type to ache for a break, for a change of pace, and for a second to breathe (hopefully that air has a little ocean salt in it, too). I am the type to ache for summer.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
