Summer Vacation As Told By Squirrels

Summer and squirrels: two of my favorite things.

Summer Vacation As Told By Squirrels

Summer is the best time of the year. You have zero academic obligations (unless you're taking summer classes, in which case, I'm sorry), the warm, sunny weather can cure any bad mood, and you can do what ever your heart desires during the wonderful time you have before heading back to school. You can be lazy on the days that you just don't feel like doing anything, or you can be as active as you want and run all over the place for six days straight. It is three months of freedom that you have to make the most of, so you try to make every day worth it. If you don't absolutely love summertime, I might think that you're a little bit crazy, and what better way to describe summer vacation than through a narration by squirrels.

Leaving school on the last day, you look like this.

You watch all the upperclassmen graduate, and you celebrate with free food and cake at all the graduation parties you were invited to attend.

For the first few weeks off, you awkwardly lay around because you aren't really sure what to do with all your free time.

After being rejuvenated from ten hours of sleep every day, you are ready to take on the world and do whatever you want.

Roasting marshmallows and making s'mores is the epitome of summertime. You will probably do this every week (and if you don't, you're missing out).

You spend everyday sunbathing in your backyard hoping to get the ultimate tan.

You have counted down the days until you hop on a plane and go spend time outside of your hometown (preferably somewhere even warmer than home).

You remember the beach is such a wonderful and relaxing place, and you don't ever want to go back home (but you have no choice).

Ice cream is always a must when it's hot out, so you usually have some everyday and hope that it doesn't ruin your perfect summer body.

You and your friends always have a cookout for the 4th of July complete with fireworks, sparklers, and anything else that combines fire and loud noises.

Summer just seems to fly by, so you take a trip to the lake to spend quality time with all your friends while swimming and water-skiing.

You go to the county fair, and as you walk around, all the carnies look at you like this trying to get you to play their games.

When summer finally reaches its end, you are totally dreading going back to school.

Every year, summer comes and goes so quickly. It always seems that there is so much stuff to do in so little time before it's over for another year, but make sure to make it last and do something fun (just like these squirrels) every day!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
