It's Summer So Turn Up The Music

It's amazing how quickly the summer comes and goes. I can't believe it's already August. Before we know it it'll be September and it will be sweater weather all over again (except for those who live in warm climates)! After having this realization, I am definitely going to take advantage of the next few days of summer I have left. Beaches, parks, and adventurous long hikes are calling my name and a great way to really enjoy those things would be to able to listen to some really great summer themed songs. Just picture riding down the beach with the windows down and the sun shining over the car hood while listening to a song like "Summer" by Calvin Harris. To me, that is a perfect summer moment. To make sure you have these perfect summer moments, here is a list of some of my favorite summer-themed songs.

"Summer" By Calvin Harris

Speaking of "Summer", of course this song will be apart of my list. The energetic techno music and the countless times summer is said in this song makes it a must-listen to during this season.

"Rather Be" By Clean Bandit Ft. Jess Glynne

When I think of summer I also think of going on vacation and traveling. To me this upbeat song is about being okay to go to new places and try new things as long as you're with the person you love. Listening to this song while taking a road trip will make the trip even more enjoyable.

"The Boys of Summer" By Don Henley

This classic song was released in 1984, and every summer I listen to it at least 20 times during the season. This nostalgic song is perfect to listen to while watching the sunset near the ocean.

"High Dive" By Andrew McMahon

The music video to this song probably wasn't filmed during the summer; especially since the people in it are wearing boots and scarves. However, the lyrics give off a summer vibe to me. You could play this song at a summer roof top party or while star gazing during a camping trip.

"Island In The Sun" By Weezer

If you'll be on and island in the sun this summer than listening to this song while tanning is a must. If you can't make it a sunny island, then this song will definitely help you imagine being there.

"Soak Up The Sun" By Sheryl Crow

This song makes me want to go to the beach and hit the waves even though I have no idea how to surf. This is the perfect chill summer song for a lazy day on the beach. Crow encourages you to be a free spirit, live your life, and soak up the sun.

"Put Your Records On" By Corinne Bailey Rae

I absolutely love this song. It's lovely to listen to while taking a stroll on the pier or biking in the park. The most satisfying lyrics of the song are when she sings "summer came like cinnamon/ so sweet."

"I'm Yours" By Jason Mraz

I feel like most of Mraz's songs are great songs to add to your summer playlist, but "I'm Yours" would be the one to be on top of that list. It makes me want to take a load off and take a nap in a hammock under some palm trees.

"Summer Blue" By Bread & Butter

This Japanese pop song from 1979 is a smooth summer song that is perfect for barbecue's and other summer get-togethers. Putting this on repeat is recommended.

"Summertime" By The Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff

For those of you who don't know, Will Smith was used to be a rapper. He made this throwback song with DJ Jazzy Jeff specifically for the summer season. This song will help you be able to just "sit back and unwind."

"Ocean Man" By Ween

This is another great beach song to jam out to while letting the ocean waves kiss your feet while walking on the edge if the beach.

"In The Summertime" By Mungo Jerry

Would it be weird to say that this song just makes me think of summer camp? Anyway, it's a catchy song to listen to that'll get you excited about all of the summer activities you have planned to do!

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow" By Israel Kamakawiwo'ole

Last but not least, this beautiful medley of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" and "What a Beautiful World" will take you to paradise also known as Hawaii. if you're not physically there. This song is about rainbows, beaches, relaxing, and finding the beauty in the world. The summer is about de-stressing, and listening to this song will help you to de-stress even faster.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
