Upstate New York doesn't receive the attention that it should.
While many people focus on New York City and Long Island, there are plenty of things to do Upstate this summer. While the definition of "Upstate" is largely debated, for the following list, I am including things to do in Westchester, Rockland and Orange counties.
Here are 21 things that you should do in Westchester and Upstate New York this summer.
1. Go camping in the Adirondacks
2. Explore one of many state parks, like Letchworth or Robert Treman
3. Spend the weekend in Lake George
4. Visit the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown
5. See 4th of July fireworks at Harbor Island Park in Westchester
6. Take a road trip to Niagara Falls
7. Spend the afternoon at the Woodbury Common Outlets
8. See a movie at one of over 20 drive-in theaters of Upstate New York
9. Go hiking and swim in waterfalls around the Finger Lakes
10. Ride carnival rides and see concerts during the New York State Fair in August
11. Find a swimming hole in the Catskills
12. Take in the scenery of Bear Mountain State Park
13. Take the Wild Walk into the trees at Tupper Lake
14. Explore the Untermyer Gardens in Westchester
15. Go to the Enchanted Forest Water Safari, the largest water park in New York
16. Catch a play at the Westchester Broadway Theatre
17. Bet on horses at the Saratoga Race Course
18. Go ziplining at Hunter Mountain
