A Summer Thank You To My Sister As We Go Back To School

Grateful for three months of summer days with my best friend.

A Summer Thank You To My Sister As We Go Back To School

The time has arrived more quickly than ever. It is time to go back to school. I dread this time of year for one reason. Not because the aisles of flip-flops and shorts have been replaced with pens and notebooks or because of the premature emails from professors, but because this is the time of year when my sister and I leave each other for our respective colleges. After three months of being together, it is a huge adjustment to return to the days of Facetimes and care packages. But before I start crying in a pile of school gear and ramen noodles, I want to say thank you to my sister for every day of this summer. We are so lucky to have the memories of Summer ’16 that we do. So before classes start and the new year begins, here is my thank you.

Thank you for being my 24/7 sidekick. Whenever one of us was busy, the other would wait up at home, eager to hear about what the other one did when we were apart.

Thank you for Netflix marathons and movie nights. Anything from “Grey's Anatomy” to “That 70s Show” are fair game for a night spent staying up late for just one more episode.

Thank you for being the car jam queen. I am pretty sure that I have a year’s worth of music to listen to thanks to you and your Spotify playlists. Driving together to wherever we were going was half of the fun. There is nothing better than blasting Kanye through the AUX cord. Listening to jams through earphones won't be quite the same, but I promise to send some dancing snapchats that are sure to be as entertaining as they are embarrassing.

Thank you for all the Starbucks runs and afternoons of errands. While I may have formed a slight Starbucks addiction this summer, I have you (and iced coffee) to thank. Any to-do lists or quiet afternoons after work were made that much more fun with a run to our hometown Starbs. It seems like a small thing, but it made my summer all the more memorable.

Thank you for the advice shared from just down the hall. While you always give me advice from school or home, there’s nothing better than getting to ask for help deciding on an outfit when we both have to run out the door.

Thank you for all the summer adventures. There is no one else I would rather be stuck in a car with on incredibly long road trips. Thanks for the weekend trips. Thanks for seeing Demi and Nick with me in concert, fangirling with the best of them and getting us lost after. My Camera Roll is all the better for it.

While we may have to wait a while for another car jam session or to have to worry about showing up to an outing wearing matching outfits by accident (for the fourth time), no matter where we are or what we are doing I can always thank you for being my best friend. See you sooner than soon.

10 Truths About Being In A Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
