5 Summer Styles That Have Made A Comeback
Laurie Shadix

Summer 2016 is filled with trends from the past that I have found very fashionable! It's a blend of popular items throughout many decades starting at the hippie phase all the way to the 1990s. They can be found easily at low prices and in many stores! These basic items are easy to dress up or dress down and, may I add, very comfortable. This summer’s trends are super fun because you can even search through your mom’s closet for some of them or find a steal at the thrift store! I am pumped that these styles are back, and I hope that you feel the need to have them in your closet as well!

1. Blue Jean Skirt

You know, the one you wore on your first day of second grade? Yeah, that one. It's time to raid your mom's closet to see if she has any she wore in the '90s. Jean skirts are so awesome because they are like your blue jeans in the way that you can wear practically anything with them, but they can also be cooler on a summer day and seem more dressy. I found this one at Plato's Closet for cheap and I also found a few in different styles at Target.

2. Classic Converse

You can never, ever go wrong with a pair of converse, no matter the generation. This is exactly what makes Converse so great. You can literally wear them with anything; dresses, skirts, jeans and shorts. They come in practically every color which makes them also perfect for summer. Next on my list is light pink and lavender. Plato's closet even has a selection.

3. Stripes

Stripes are my favorite! They make any basic top look fashionable. Although stripes have never "gone out of style", they certainly are easy to find. My stripe must-haves are mini-dresses, comfortable tops and swim suits. They can even make you appear a smaller size if it has vertical stripes.

4. Tie-Dye

Hello 1960s! Hippies brought the popularity of tie-dyeing among their generation, and it has come back! Tie-dye can be fun, not only because you can make the design yourself, but that it has bright colors with a fun design.

5. Round Sunnies

I have seen this trend begin to emerge this summer and it's so retro! I especially like the colored frames with big round lens that make me feel like I am living in the '80s. It is just fun to have a bunch of cool and unique sunglasses during the summer. Charlotte Ruse usually has them for $5, so you should go check them out!

These basics are sure to make your summer wardrobe more fun and unique! The best thing about these trendy styles is that you can wear them in your own way without dressing like every one else. It'll also be awesome when someone a little older than you sees a trend come back around that they used to really like. These comebacks are sure to make summer 2016's style one of the best!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
