Summer classes are those that most students dread taking. The idea of taking a full semester of a course in just a month is so tempting, but when you actually think about it, it sounds like hell. When you are in high school you see summer as a break from everyone. A time where you can be stupid, lay by the pool, go out on the lake and just create memories that you will cherish forever. Most college students want to do the exact same thing, only a lot of us get stuck for at least half the summer in courses. If you are not working, a lot of college students will be working during the summer to save up for the school year. High school summers were a blast, but welcome to the real world of college.
Remember The Good Things
Do not look at summer session as a cruel punishment or an awful obstacle in which you must face. Instead look at it as an opportunity to really understand the material and hopefully make an A. The sizes in a summer course are dramatically smaller, which allows you to get more comfortable with the material. Use this to your advantage by connecting with your prof, ask questions, and get to know your classmates. Do not forget that you are dealing with this material every day, which allows you to remember it. Put in the work now so you can do good on the tests.
I do want to inform you that this will not be a super easy task. You can't put things off until the last minute or not do your work. This is a time to be serious about your work and understand that you can't blow this off.
A Few Tips
1. Get personal.
You need to match how you learn with your personality. Learn where you study or learn best and do it. Want to be successful or a summer semester maybe is not for you.
2. Dive Into the material.
Really give your school work the attention that it needs. Pay attention to what you are learning and do not put it on the back burner. Find ways to allow you to study well or even make it fun. Remember what you are at college for and give yourself something to work toward.
3. Find your balance.
Remember that you are still a college student and it is summer. Do your work and study, but find a way to incorporate some fun activities into your work. Go out to the pool and study notes or take a study break and visit some friends on the lake. Whatever it is that makes summer fun for you, go out and do it. Just make sure you finish all of your work before doing so. School does come first, but allow yourself to have a little fun.
4. Relax a little.
As much as it is important to do your work and find time for your friends, you need to make time for yourself. Do whatever makes you relax and just find some peace. You have to remember to take care of yourself, especially the sane part.
I wish you the best of luck in your summer sessions! Remember these tips and to apply yourself so you can get the grades you want!
