In This Article:

Summer calls for lounging. The warm weather, persistent rays, and welcoming water sources scream to us to take a break, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. Some people listen to music as they tan, others may watch Netflix, and a many others crack open a great book. If you're the one who thrives off of pages of text, you might want to take a look at some of these great titles.

1. "Wherever You Go, There You Are"

This insightful text by Jon Kabat-Zinn takes the reader on a journey through the mindfulness practice and life itself. It helps the reader understand what mindfulness is, how it works, and how we can live our lives more fully and present. It is easy to understand and not terribly long. It is a perfect, relaxing text that is perfect for anyone trying to reconnect with their inner selves.

2. "Tuesdays with Morrie"

Mitch Albom recounts his experience of learning the important values of life by sitting down with his dying professor. He learns to slow down and appreciate the small aspects of the world going on around him. If you are looking for some answers this short novel will give you a new perspective of the way one should live and is perfect for those days in the rays.

3. "Moneyball"

You don't have to be a baseball fan to enjoy this novel by Michael Lewis, but it certainly would not hurt. Lewis goes in depth into the workings of baseball and the originally unorthodox ways of Billy Beene. The reader will be captivated by the intellect involved in managing a baseball team. It's a great read for someone looking to test their thinking skills.

4. "The Longest Ride"

A summer would not be complete without a Nicholas Sparks love story. If you're looking for something lighter and lovable, this is the read for you.

5. "Are you there God? It's Me, Margaret."

Although written as more of a children's novel, this work by Judy Blume is an easy read with a deeper message. As a young girl grows up, she searches to find God and a religion she likes. Her constant communication with the man upstairs provides a thoughtful outlook on how we perceive life, religion, and children.

So, as you head to the pool, the beach, or maybe just a back patio, grab one of these great books to keep your mind activated while you lounge in the beautiful sun.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
