Is Summer Over Yet?

For anyone ready for autumn to "fall" into place.

Summer. It has its charms, just like any season. But shouldn't it be over by now? Here are nine things that anyone who is ready for autumn to "fall" into place will appreciate.

1. Cooler temperatures

Yes, there are ways to avoid being hot all the time, but can anyone tell me they genuinely enjoy walking outside only to be smacked in the face with a heat wave straight from the sun? If I ever reach a point in my life that I like being sweaty and uncomfortable all the time, please be concerned.

2. Fall fashion

How have we survived without essentials like scarves, sweaters, and leggings? No more will we have to settle for just a tee shirt and shorts to survive the stifling heat. Most of my wardrobe is rendered unusable in the summer, so I'm very excited to unpack my warmer, "winter" clothes.

3. Halloween

Even if you aren't into dressing up (who wouldn't be?) you can still appreciate the night's charms. Halloween is the only time of year that you can find candy corn everywhere. And besides, unsold Halloween candy will go on sale November 1st, so that's worth cashing in on. Plus, Jack-O-Lanterns!

4. Leaves

When the trees start to shed their leaves, the colors are truly gorgeous. It always seems like your favorite color of changing leaves is the color you see least in the fall. Remember how much fun you had when you were younger, falling in a pile of leaves? Remember how they crackle under your feet and would get stuck in your hair? I guess this year you'll just have to make a bigger leaf pile.

5. School starting again

Hear me out — this can be a good thing. By the time summer rolls around, you're ready for a break. But eventually, you will need something to do. Besides, you haven't seen your school all summer, and there are new experiences just waiting to be had when you get back.

6. Pumpkin Spice EVERYTHING

White girl or not, you can't hate on pumpkin spiced things, especially when it comes to that Thanksgiving staple, pumpkin pie. And even if you don't like the taste of pumpkin, you know it smells AMAZING.

7. Longer Nights

In summer, you cant go outside and be comfortable until the sun has gone down, if then. But in the fall, you can watch the sunset comfortably, and bonfires and fire-pits peak in crisp weather.

8. Anticipation of Thanksgiving and Christmas

The holidays bring excitement, no matter how old you are. Even if the relentless Christmas music and the last minute shopping sprees aren't particularly enjoyable, there's much to appreciate in this time of thankfulness and love.

9. Winter Is Coming

Snow. Christmas. New Years. Winter Clothes. The list goes on. Winter is my favorite season, which some people don't understand, but I don't really understand their love of summer so I guess we're even.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
