Netflix has become so much more than a movie streaming service -- it's a hobby. Every college student knows the feeling of cozying up in bed after a long day and opening their laptop to reveal the warm red glow of the Netflix logo. Netflix has become a frequent summer pastime of mine when I am not at work or with my friends. That being said, here are the shows that have been keeping me company all summer '17.
1. "Riverdale"
I started my summer binge session off strong with the popular teen drama "Riverdale". I have to admit I was a bit skeptical of the show at first because there was so much hype. Is everyone watching it just to watch it? Is it actually good? It took some convincing from my friends (thanks, guys), but I eventually caved. I finished the whole season in a weekend. Easily. Drama and mystery drove the plot, which got me hooked, and the 13 episode season made it very easy to binge. "Riverdale" proved to be great late night entertainment.
2. "Orange Is The New Black"
"Orange is the New Black" is like that old friend who comes to town once a year. After waiting an eternity after last season's cliff hanger, I welcomed season five with open arms. I had finished "Riverdale" just in time to start OITNB and probably finished it in the same time, too. I can't wait to host you again next summer, Litchfield!
3. "Grey's Anatomy"
Okay, I know I'm a little late on this one, but I figured summer would be the perfect time to hop on the bandwagon. I am only on season six, but this show has kept me in good company. "Grey's Anatomy" is well balanced with hints of drama, romance, humor, and the most intense operating room action known to man. As Derek Shepherd would say, "It's a great day to watch 'Grey's'". Right, McDreamy?
4. Comedy Specials: For When You Need A Break From The Binge
As much as I love flying through season after season of my favorite shows, I find it to be a bit tedious at times. It's in those dreadful moments that I turn to the treasure trove of Netflix comedy specials to switch things up. This summer, my favorites include comedians Chris D'Elia and Jen Kirkman. D'Elia's "Incorrigible" had me on the floor laughing for the entirety of the show. His comedic gold along with his high energy personality left me coming back for more. Jen Kirkman's "girl next door" vibes and witty humor makes me feel like I am talking with my friends after a long day. A good comedy special can never do any harm.
As summer comes to a close, I need to start searching for new shows to watch during the school year. Maybe I'll turn to Michael Scott or Barney Stinson for company. Who said making new friends is hard?
