It's extremely daunting when I think about experiencing an endless winter. Here is my reasoning as to why I need summer to come faster than it usually does.
As spring break comes creeping around the corner, I can't help but picture summer waiting patiently to make her appearance. She's waiting patiently, but she really doesn't need to be. Summer provides warmth, renewal, and relaxation that all students need right now.
To be more specific, we are all overwhelmed suddenly with the number of midterms after midterms, tests after tests. How do I know this? I am one of those students. And so are the majority of my friends. The number of breakdowns in my first-year suite has quintupled in this last week before spring break because we can no longer handle the dead winter weather, the stress over our futures, and of course, our workload. There is no mistake when I say there is a high correlation with intense partying and intense stress before the spring break commences. Because students overwhelm themselves with studying and worrying over the smallest or biggest of problems, we let loose in the one small week of freedom we are provided. Hence, summer is all the more necessary.
Now, why is summer the main thing on my mind instead of spring break? Simple. Time. I crave more time to relax and calm down from the rollercoaster of daily college life. The vitamins from the sun evidently improve my morale, my mood, and productivity because I want to make the most of a beautiful day. I can do the activities I love most: hiking, swimming, walking outside without feeling little needles of snow in my face... I don't just want the break that comes in the package of summer, but I simply want the warmth and possibility to complain about it being "too hot". To better our health and mental state, summer, or the warm weather, will contribute to pushing us out of our rabbit holes of despair and stress with certainty.
There are a lot of other cravings I've had over this intense winter period. I've craved chocolate, fries, playing Super Smash Bros instead of doing homework, home, etc. The list is endless. However, summer is the one craving I can't seem to satiate.
