Summer Jobs As Told by The Office

From the good to the bad, it sure was an experience.

We've all had a summer job we either loved or hated and "The Office" can describe exactly how you were feeling at that job.

1. The first day

It's always nerve racking on the first day.

2. When you make your first friend

Making a friend is always helpful so you have someone to eat lunch with, complain to, and just make going to work a little bit easier.

3. When someone stands up to the evil boss

There is always that one boss that no one can stand and eventually someone will give them a taste of their own medicine and when they do it will be the highlight of your week.

4. When the customer is always right

In retail I know you've run into that customer who could not possibly be more wrong but unfortunately you have to do what they want because it's your job.

5. When at the end of a long day someone asks how you're doing

Some days you just can't hold it in and smile any longer and when someone asks how you're doing it's hard to not lay on the cash register and cry.

6. When you make a mistake but try not to let the customer see.

There have been so many times I've made mistakes and tried to play it off like I didn't do anything wrong. It usually doesn't work.

7. When you're sent to find something in the store you're certain doesn't exist.

I've been sent to search for crazy things before and I'll spend what seems like hours trying to find something I'm not even sure we sell.

8. When someone yells at you for carding them

If you've worked in any store that sells alcohol or tobacco I'm sure you've dealt with people getting upset when you card them, and usually they "don't have their ID".

9. When you spend all of your check before it comes and then remember you make minimum wage.

I tend to spend my entire check before it is even here and then when it gets here I wonder why I'm broke.

10. When a customer says they forgot something and asks you to run back and get it for them.

I don't know how many times I've been asked to run and get paper towel, cans of vegetables or pop for someone because they forgot to grab it before getting to my lane.

11. Knowing at the end of the day it'll all be worth it eventually.

Summer jobs may not be the most fun but as a college student I sure am grateful for them.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.

1. You're tired of school food and have resorted to surviving off junk food and cereal.

2. Your financial aid/money is running out...and chances are it all went to textbooks and takeout.
