First Summer Home From College As Told By Friends

Freshman year of college is one full of excitement, learning and shambles. Just as we finally begin to adjust to the crazy hustle and bustle of college life, we are forced to pack up our messy dorm rooms and head back home for the summer. In high school, the first day of summer could not come soon enough, but after a year of freedom away from home this long break just seems unnecessary. It's only the first week back home and it feels like it's the fifteenth. Sophomore year where ya at?

When you walk into your house for the summer and see all the delicious FREE snacks so you end up eating half your body weight in chips.

Sorry, not sorry.

When your mom keeps lecturing you about how you never clean your room and how you need to get off your lazy butt to get a job.

I'll get to it when I get to it!

The moment your dog rejects you for cuddles and you realize that they have more of a life than you do this summer.

It's cool, Max, really I'm fine!

When you're excited to hang out with your friends, because it means that you finally have plans with someone other than Netflix, but you remember there is absolutely NOTHING to do.

Yeah! Woo! Summer!!

After the second week of doing nothing, but laying in bed you decide it is finally time to do something with your life.

On second thought...

That face you make when you're parents say "Aren't you glad to be home?"

I still love you guys though, don't worry!

Even though you can't escape the boredom you know that you don't have to worry about millions of tests and papers sure to come your way next semester.

That's a plus.

When your sister tells you she thinks you've gained weight since going to college, but how could you not with all the ramen and dining hall chicken tenders!

Those tenders though..

And finally, when you realize that you still have three months left before heading back to school.

Might as well make the best of it!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
