Living in a rural state many summer fun ideas come to a screeching halt due to the lack of things to do. This is where many people make a mistake having woods and lack of large cities can come in handy! Looking outside the box can be difficult but there are many hidden ways to spend your summer days.
1. Go For a Hike
This sounds very basic but many of Vermont's wooded areas lead to beautiful destinations. This is a great activity to do by yourself or in a group. Just pick a random location and start walking on a path guaranteed you and your friends will have fun. Do not forget to pack water!
Bonus: To make things more fun do some research on the area you will be hiking and make a scavenger hunt first one to get the list complete wins a prize of the groups choosing.
2. Tubing or Lazy River
Now this is a really fun idea but make sure you pack sunscreen. There are businesses that you pay to hop on a tube and ride one of Vermont's many rivers. It is basically a giant lazy river. If you decide to go in a group just attach all the tubes together so you all are connected.
Bonus: When going down the river you get to enjoy the beautiful view that Vermont has to offer. This also could be a great idea for a date if you want something fun but intimate.
3. Bonfire
Yet another common idea for summer fun but many overlook how relaxing and fun being around a fire with all of your friends can actually be. Personally, I love bonfires and will invite as many people I can. Make sure you trust who is invited so you can be completely relaxed and not worried.
Bonus: If you plan out a cookout with everyone who is going to the fire each person can grab one item before arriving, that way everyone had food and drinks. Make sure you all agree on food that can be cooked over the fire if not it defeats the purpose. Another option is to have everyone drive down and back up around the fire and open the trunk or drop the tail gate for easy seating.
4. Rodeo
Every Saturday at 8 p.m. located at Pond Hill Ranch in Castelton, Vermont there is a rodeo starting July 2 through September 3. I know some people hear rodeo and instantly not want to go but it is very fun. Some of the line-up includes: bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, girls barrel racing, bull riding.
Bonus: Going as a group or as a date can be fun because everyone's adrenalin is pumping. Also going as a group can be great also because if your group wants you all can hang out before and get dinner or go swimming hours before. Also, if your groups want to in the bed of someone's truck or at someone's car instead of watching can be just as much fun.
5. Playing In Mud
This is one of my personal favorites because it has endless possibility of fun. This is not for everyone but if you can get access to a vehicle (make sure it is not something you drive daily and has clearance underneath) or an ATV going off road would be a great pass time. Once you start slinging up mud it will be hard to stop. This is a great pass time because new experiences because the same trail is never the same twice, also because mud fights can happen. Again this activity is not for everyone but it is worth a try getting dirty never hurt anyone.
Bonus: This can be really fun especially in a group of people because laughs and jokes are shared but also for new people it will be a great new experiance. No matter where you are in Vermont there is always off road trails.
6. Camping With Friends
Camping is pretty self-explanatory. Just get a group of people, make a list of camping gear/food that is needed, and divide that among the number of people along with the cost of the campsite. This way everyone has a part and has a list of things they need to bring.
Bonus: Getting away from everyday life can be very relaxing and fun especially with friends. So gather everyone up run away for a weekend and share stories around the camp fire. This trip can also bring people closer together so just have fun.
