With spring semester nearing it's end, summer is starting to peek from around the corner. Summer is that time of year that every college student is anxiously awaiting because finals have just taken about every ounce of energy we've had left for the semester. Summer is the time when we are all able to "let loose" and "have fun." Most would even say that, "summer is the best time of year." Summer starts the dawn of daygers and endless beach days. It's a time to hang out with all of the friends you haven't been able to see since you left for school.
While all of this is fun and exciting, it can get old pretty fast. If you're like me and feel a little "partied out" from the semester that you thought would never end, I urge you to take time for yourself. It may not sound as fun as hanging with friends everyday and party hopping, but I promise it's something that we all need. A lot of times, we get lost in the hustle and bustle of life and forget about ourselves. We get so used to running around all the time that we hardly get to take time and enjoy every day simplicity's. I'm not saying that you shouldn't have fun with friends this summer and spending hours by the ocean, I'm saying that you do not need to do that every day to have a good summer. Have a summer for yourself.
Before you know it, college is going to be over and you're going to have a "real" job. No more working part-time in retail, or serving at a sports bar, you're going to be starting your career. Summer is officially over once you have to "adult" and there's no such thing as three months off. Take a summer to focus on yourself and your own well being. It's not a crime to chose to sit inside and read a good book instead of going to the mall with your 12 closest friends all day. It's not a crime to chose to skip a party that your friends want you to go too. It's not a crime to chose yourself.
Have a happy summer; one that's good for your soul. Do things that you're going to remember for years to come, such as spending quality time with the family you barely see during the school year. Enjoy nature for all that it's worth and take a short walk down the road less traveled. Find a book and fall in love with it. Start a TV series on Netflix that doesn't make you want to move a muscle all day. Do some things for yourself now and focus on others later. This summer, do things that you're not going to regret doing. Do things that make your soul happy and find yourself along the way. I'm more than excited to hang out with my friends this summer, but I'm also happy to hang out with myself.
