Summer is a confusing time for us college kids. It's a love-hate relationship, really. The freedom and relief of not having school work and responsibilities weighing us down is the best, but we miss the friends and independence that accompanies our time at school.
We spend all year longing for summer, and when it finally arrives, we just don't know how to feel. No one expresses this roller coaster of emotion better than Michael Gary Scott of Dunder Mifflin.
1. Complete and utter joy.
The feeling of turning in that last exam, packing up your room and high-tailing it home for the summer is not only euphoric, but also the biggest sigh of relief that a college student could feel.
2. The desire to do nothing else but lay in bed and sleep for ten years straight.
Don't be mistaken, it's awesome to be home surrounded by family and friends from high school, but nothing beats escaping the real world for a while to recover from the previous semester from hell.
3. The compulsive need to fill every second with friends and trips, but having the same curfew and rules at home as you did in high school.
Our parents mean well, they do, but things are different now and it can be awkward and hard to explain that we are independent adults.
4. The dread of seeing those people from high school around town that you never wanted to lay eyes on again.
It is mostly exciting to reconnect with old friends, but there are those select few people from high school that we just hoped to never see after graduation.
5. Feeling the pain of buying textbooks and paying tuition.
Growing up and being in college is all fun and games until you realize it is way more expensive to be an adult than it was to be a kid.
6. Running out of things to do and just waiting around to move back in.
Summer has been great and full of adventures, but there comes a point when the summer bucket list comes to an end and you start really missing your friends from school.
7. Reuniting with your best friends on move-in day and knowing all is right with the world.
Everything feels normal again now that your best friends are right down the hall and there to gossip and go on Target runs with at any time of the day or night.
8. When reality hits as soon as the alarm clock goes off at 6 a.m. on the first day of class.
Well, summer is officially over and like it or not, the long and hard countdown to next summer begins.
