Summer is definitely my favorite season out of all four seasons, but summer means something different when you are not going to school anymore. Going into my final year of college means that I will no longer get that summer break I am so used to, but it's still my last chance to knock a few things of my bucket list.
With this in mind, I am going to make the most of this last summer by doing these 16 things. Hopefully you can take a few of these things to try yourself.
1. Work my ass off.
I recently was hired as a marketing strategist for an e-commerce company. It's going to be a lot of fun but involve a lot of hard work, too. Getting to work in my field before I even graduate is an amazing opportunity and I want to do really great in it (and maybe brag a little too).
2. Take summer classes.
I haven't not taken summer classes since my junior year of high school. This has almost become routine for me to take one or two classes over the summer. It's just eight weeks and I enjoy keeping up with the structure and using my brain muscles over the summer.
3. Turn 21.
I am more excited to spend time at breweries with friends, or going to a wine tasting in the warm weather, than going to bars or clubs. Either way, this is more of a social thing that I can't wait to be a part of.
4. Make new friends.
I am not looking for a new friend group; my friends are great. There are a few people in my life I would love to get to know better, and this summer there will not be things like midterms or class schedules getting in the way. (For them at least.)
5. Go tubing.
This is something I end up doing at least once every summer. Well, this summer I want to do it every week!
6. Go to a music festival.
I have always wanted to go to one but I have always been busy or away during any of the good ones. NOT THIS TIME.
7. Hang out with dogs.
I am also a part-time dog walker and I can't wait to spend time outside walking my furry pals.
8. Get my bartending licence.
I have always wanted to become a bartender and now that I am turning 21, I can apply to be one! This doesn't necessarily mean I will become one, but at least I'll be one step closer.
9. Go to yoga, a lot.
I try to go to yoga during the school year, but it's hard to balance everything all the time. This summer I'm going to make it a priority to spend more time working on myself. I've also been toying with the idea of becoming a certified instructor.
10. Spend time with family.
I sometimes go months without even talking to my family, and that is just ludicrous. Now that I have a car, I will be making the trip to my hometowns so much more.
11. Go camping.
Outdoors is good for the soul. Grab some friends and plan a long weekend away from our screens surrounded by trees, full of hot dogs, and covered in campfire smells.
12. Build a super-bed.
This one has to wait until my roommates move into their new pad. I will have a month of complete solitude in my apartment, and minimal furniture. If you think I'm not going to take my mattress and put it in my living room, you are sooo wrong.
13. Take a mini vacation.
I haven't thought about this a lot, but I definitely want to go somewhere and do something. Whether it be a road trip to Montana, surfing in southern California, or a week trip up to Alaska, I am going to try and treat myself.
14. Camping with friends.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, everyone and their grandmother seems to enjoy camping. I am never going to turn down a chance to earn some more dirt miles under my belt.
15. Paddle board to the middle of the lake.
I just recently had the idea to go out on the lake in the early morning and lay down on my paddle board just listening to the sounds of the world waking up.
16. Attempt to eat nothing but fruit.
I am not sure on the duration of this, but I'm going to say a minimum of two or three days. I love to eat meat but I just want to attempt to be as tropical and creative with my meals as I possibly can for a few days.
17. Plan a community event.
There is a project in the works that is the leftover brain-child of my marketing class. It is a community service event meant to combine Bellingham's 2 favorite things, beer and the outdoors! Planning a project takes a lot of time and effort so this summer would be perfect to get the ball rolling!
Here is my list of most important things I plan on doing this summer. I might be too ambitious for the limited time that I have this summer, but I for sure won't be bored! What are you going to do this summer?
