Summer Lovin'

7

Students goes through a major decision every year: whether to go back to their hometown, or stay in the beloved city of Clemson for the best three months of the year. Its not an easy choice since there are so many different options to weigh. A summer job? Taking classes? A job back home you want to return to? A full three months with your high school friends and family? All of these are reasons to consider when choosing a summer plan. Some might be on their last summer as a 'free person' until they hit the real world. Some might be saying, "Heck, I got three more summers, I might as well just do the same old same old that I did in high school and follow the norm." Asking around, I've heard so many people going back and forth on the decision. Of course, there are those who without a doubt have an answer set in stone.
But for me, I had no idea what I wanted to do. A summer with my family, making money at my local pool in Chicago and being able to spend it with my puppy... That should seem like a no brainer. But summer in Clemson has proven to be some of the best times students have had here. I came up for the Fourth of July last summer, and let me tell you… It was the time of my life. No classes to worry about, pool time at Crawford or the Orchard, endless sunny days (and occasional rainy Netflix days filled with Spill the Beans and wings from Wingin’ It). Plus, being able to stay in your apartment without having to find that dreaded sub-leaser who will want to pay less leading to more money out of your pocket.
What are the negatives to that? A full three months, with no class or job…BOOORRRING. Think again. Take a road trip to Charleston or Athens and experience things you may be too busy to do throughout the school year. Plan darty’s with the students who are also in Clemson, take day trips to Greenville and try all different kinds of food you have never adventured to taste before. Go to Y-Beach and enjoy the lake, or even to Table Rock and take a hike. There are SO many things to do here that we don't take advantage of due to our loads of schoolwork and extra-curricular involvements.
All I can say is whether you decide to flee the beautiful town of Clemson, SC or stay, take advantage of the time we have off. August comes soon enough, and the school grind will not be shy to pick right back up!

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
