Congratulations! You've made it through another grueling school year and are so ready to start your summer break. There are many places to go and things to do and people to see. Don't spend another summer on the couch or in bed. Reward yourself for all of your hard work this past year with an exciting and fulfilling summer!

1. Swim in the ocean.

There's just something about salt water that cleanses the soul. Spend a day at the beach and take a dip in the water. Don't forget your sunscreen!

2. Try a new food.

There are so many foreign cuisines and unique dishes to try. If you don't like it, life goes on. But you'll never know if you don't try.

3. Get a new tattoo or piercing.

Be a little daring this summer and get some ink. If tattoos aren't your thing, try a new piercing. If you're hesitant to do anything permanent, try a temporary tattoo or fake earrings, like ear cuffs or clip-ons.

4. Read a good book.

You can reread an old favorite or something completely new. See how many books you can finish by the end of summer!

5. Hike to the top of a mountain.

Enjoy nature's beauty with a friend and walk a local trail. It's so rewarding to get to the top and share a magnificent view. Make sure to take some pictures!

6. Try a cool new hair color.

There's no better time to experiment with a new hair color than over the summer. You can go with something natural, or try something colorful and crazy.

7. Go to a museum.

If art museums bore you, you can always check out history museums or science museums. There's something for everybody.

8. Attend a concert.

Go see your favorite artist live! You'll experience some summer vibes and, of course, some great music.

9. Get in shape.

Whether your goal is to lose some weight, build muscle, or just have fun, summer is the best time to get active. Get outside and go for a run, join a gym, or try some yoga.

10. Find a new show to watch.

Just because you don't have any homework to procrastinate doing doesn't mean it's time to say goodbye to Netflix or Hulu. Binge-watching a new show with a friend never gets old.

11. Kiss someone.

Whether you've been dating the same person for a while, or you're meeting someone new, nothing beats the butterflies you get from a nice kiss. For some bonus points, kiss while stargazing or watching a fireworks show!

12. Make something crafty.

You can decorate a birdhouse, learn how to make friendship bracelets, or even do something as simple as painting a picture. Creating something nice and finishing a project is a nice way to give yourself some purpose this summer.

13. Sleep in a tent.

If you don't want to go camping in the woods, you can always pitch a tent in your backyard and invite a friend over for some s'mores.

14. Catch a fish.

Go to a lake or river with your family or friends with some fishing rods. Have a competition to see who can catch the first fish!

15. Go kayaking.

Kayaking is a good workout and a great way to see some beautiful views. You can go for distance or float along and enjoy your surroundings.

You don't have to do all of these things to have a great summer. The best way to have a fulfilling summer is to do what makes you happy. Surround yourself with friends and family. Have fun and stay safe!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
