I had the pleasure of seeing the movie “Sully” tonight. It is directed by Clint Eastwood and stars Tom Hanks as Captain Sully as well as many other notable actors, including Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney, Chris Bauer, Holt McCallany, and Mike O’Malley. It tells the true story of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger landing US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson river after it was struck by a flock of geese, causing them to lose both engines in the plane.
The “miracle on the Hudson” occurs on January 15th, 2009, saving 155 lives of the passengers and crew on board. After the miracle, Sully is mobbed by media/press and the public who praise him and call him a hero.
Despite the praise, there is an investigation into the landing, and it almost causes Sully’s 42-year career as a pilot, as well as his reputation, to go down the drain.
I absolutely loved the movie. Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors, so there is a bit of a bias there, but it really is a well put together film. It tells the story behind the story, and it is really interesting.
The most interesting part to me is the investigation that happens. The National Transportation Safety Board
The acting throughout the movie was spectacular. One of my favorite parts with beautiful acting and directing is the scene in which Tom Hanks realizes he has to land the plane on the Hudson. You can tell there is a lot of great effort put into the scene because not only are the captains great, so were the passengers.
Sometimes in movies, passengers on planes could appear as cheesy, but in this movie, their acting is authentic and not cheesy at all. It is also filmed very well, and so much so that when they showed the plane crashing into the water, I got a little nervous. It felt real to me.
All in all, it is a well-directed, casted film, and I give it an 8/10.
