World Suicide Prevention Day

September 10.

World Suicide Prevention Day

As of this year, suicide is at its all time high for the past 30 years. This means that too many people are losing hope about their futures, don't have anyone to talk to, or have let their mental disorders take over their minds.

Suicide is one of those things that most people do not like to talk about. And if it does get talked about, its being called cowardly and selfish. Whereas many will agree that it is cowardly and selfish, the people that do commit suicide or think about committing suicide, do not see it that way. They see it as ending any pain that they are in because they cannot bare to deal with it anymore and they think that nobody will ever care that they decided to do this. Truth is, they do not think about all of the possibilities, all of the people that really do care about them, and all of the things that they will not get to experience in the future.

There are so many things that end when you decide to take your life. You hurt all of the people that care about you and love you, your future will never get to happen, you will miss your high school graduation, you will miss getting to see your younger siblings grow up and what kind of people that they will be, and most of all, you lose the hope that everything will get better in the future.

The best thing for you to do if you are considering suicide is to get help in one way or another. Take it from someone that knows what this feels like. I have been there, right there in your shoes. I have felt what you have felt and I got help. Now six years later, I am in college pursuing a degree that I love and I'm finally happy with where I am in my life.

Things will be hard, most people will just see a smile on someone's face and assume that they're happy and not think that anything could be wrong. When the truth is, that just because someone is smiling, it does not always mean they are happy. Be kind to others, you do not know what goes on behind closed doors or in the silence of their minds.

This year for World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th, To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), has launched a campaign with the slogan #IKeptLiving. You can go to www.twloha.com to buy merchandise to support this campaign and you may also go to IKeptLiving.com to donate.

So, in the spirit of the launch of their new campaign, #IKeptLiving because my story was not over yet. I need to finish my story and then allow myself to share my story to help other people that may be able to relate.

To the people that may read this and are struggling, the number for the National Suicide Prevention Line is 1-800-273-8255. Or you may go on www.twloha.com and find other help lines and resources for you to use.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
