Suicide Shouldn't Be An Option

Inspiration from someone who knows first hand what it's like.

Suicide Shouldn't Be An Option

It's three o'clock in the morning. You're sitting on the bathroom floor, crying, trying to decide whether or not this will be it.

You're tired of living. You're in a cycle that repeats day after day, and nothing ever changes. Your depression is at an all-time high. You're tired of trying to do better, and you're tired of being told to lighten up.

I'm here to tell you, this shouldn't be the end.

You're in pain now. You may be going through a rough patch in your life. You may have had a loss in your life, whether it be from death or a simple disagreement. Maybe you're going through a hard breakup.

The pain will subside. Or perhaps it will not subside.

Sometimes the pain will never truly go away.

This is where you need to take a step back, and you need to realize you were placed here with a purpose.

You were not set on this Earth just to throw your life away. You were sent here to change the world, whether it be subtle or noticeable.

This pain was set in your life so you can rise. So you can learn from it and grow stronger.

You're probably a stranger, you probably don't even know who I am. Well, I already know that your life is well worth living.

I was suicidal from the time when I was eleven to even now. I have thoughts sometimes. It truly never goes away.

However, it does get better.

I lost my grandfather to suicide whenever I was twelve years old, and even though I so desperately wanted to die, I saw how his death affected my family.

I saw how him killing himself changed everyone's lives around me.

The thing about suicide and depression is that it's tricky. Sometimes, it's obvious in people. Sometimes, people are really good at hiding it.

My grandfather was really good. I even saw my grandfather smiling and laughing the night before he took his life.

You're not the only one in the world dealing with these thoughts, these voices in your head telling you you're better off leaving this damn world.

This world is cruel, but it's your turn to kick its ass and let it know that you won't let it stop you.

You are strong. You are worth it. You can get through this hell.

If no one believes in you, just know I do.

Don't let a temporary situation cause a permanent reaction.

IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW ARE STRUGGLING WITH SUICIDAL THOUGHTS AND/OR TENDENCIES, REACH OUT IMMEDIATELY. NO ONE SHOULD GO THROUGH THIS ALONE. SUICIDE IS SERIOUS.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
