Unfortunately, suicide is a topic I'm very familiar with. It is for many people. According to WHO, approximately one million people commit suicide each year worldwide, that is about one death every 40 seconds or 3,000 per day. For each individual who takes his/her own life, at least 20 attempt to do so. Recently, the internet has shown this trend and it isn't the message we should send out.

This image is what I mean. At first glance, you're like "Yeah, look out for your loved ones more!", but this screams victim-blaming. You're telling family and friends who knew about the situation and saying "Hey, you didn't do enough. You didn't do anything to help". All these examples are from the people who were closest to them, who care for and loved them for who they truly were. So stop attacking them.
dropping a hotline is just a gesture as is "checking in".
It's not about whether you show them love or actively check on them. When someone decides to commit suicide, they'll isolate themselves and will say everything is fine. They don't want to be a "burden" on others. They purposely push away everyone and it will feel like a normal day with them. You could've taken them out and had an amazing night and still wake up to them gone.
The last thing anyone who has just lost someone is saying they didn't do enough because they're already starting to believe that themselves. You're potentially continuing the suicidal cycle of madness. What someone needs after they just lost someone is love, support and an understanding that it will be okay. Why blame others when you can be helping them heal?
