How The Suicide Bombing In Manchester, England Affects Me As A Security Guard
The Know

I work security at a concert venue in my hometown. Security is one of the toughest positions to work in and is the most physically demanding jobs in the workforce. We have to constantly fear for our lives during every show because we have no idea when our next psychopath will appear in the amphitheater.

The suicide bombing in Manchester, England after the Ariana Grande concert is a perfect example of certain protocols that we need to take here in the United States. If we don't, it will only be a matter of time before we're next. If we are, there are certain protocols that we need to take to ensure this doesn't happen here. It's because of this we need to check not two inches, or two feet, but every square inch of our surrounding areas.

As a security guard here in the US, I say that this is an embarrassment for that amphitheater in Manchester because their gate security should've prevented him from entering. Should security be more stabilized because of one attack? No, it should already be stabilized before an attack even occurs. We need to be ready for anything that comes through our borders and definitely before it comes knocking on our doors.

As a security guard, this is a learning experience not just for England, France, Germany, or any Western European country of the like, but it should be a learning experience for us as well. Listen to what Donald Trump says, we need to protect our borders and protect ourselves. I'm well aware that most of you jumped at that comment, but put your childish hatred aside. We need our leader now more than ever and it will start with security protocols that he will give me, the security force, and law enforcement officials around the country.

There was an instance two years ago at my amphitheater where we needed to check every square inch at the amphitheater for anything suspicious. Hell, we even did random searches. Random searches are put in place for a reason ladies and gentlemen! If someone asks you to stand aside, empty your pockets, and prepare for a patdown, you listen. If someone asks to look in your bag, you will let them do so.

Security cannot be a joke anymore; it was never a joke to begin with. It takes multiple teams of us to ensure your safety and to ensure that nothing will happen to you. My advice to you going forward: be aware, be on guard, and when in doubt, stand behind us.

My thoughts are with England today, tomorrow, and forever, as with any other country that has been affected by ISIS. I am happy to hear that Ariana Grande is safe, and I am happy to hear that most people have been declared safe. I mourn for the 22 people we lost on Monday, today, and for the families affected, as we all should.

My advice for you all going forward: Now is the time to become united. As I mentioned, it will only be a matter of time until we might be facing a similar fate. Protect each other, your friends, and your family.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
