Suicide And Depression- The Harsh Reality

Teen depression and teen suicide both seem to be very prominent issues in society today. Though they are issues that seem to be prominent in society, they are also issues that we don’t seem to talk about anywhere near as much as what we probably should. I understand that it is very difficult to talk about, but there are many topics like teenage depression and suicide that are very important that may be difficult to talk about that we need to bring more awareness to.

As most of the readers of this article probably know, about two or three months ago, Netflix released a season of an original series based on a book by Jay Asher. “13 Reasons Why” should help parents, as well as other adults, to see what kinds of things may be running through their child’s head and show ways that they might be able to help their kids when they are having trouble.

This book and the TV series should help bring to light just how important it is for all parents to study how depression can affect children, and how depression in Kids and young adults can affect them differently than depression in adults. This book and TV series should also help show how much parents should study the signs and/or actions of suicide or suicidal thoughts that can present themselves in kids, teens, and young adults.

Depression and suicide are serious topics that need to be talked about, especially with the younger generations. Suicide and Depression are hard enough topics to talk about when it comes to the older generations, but it becomes even harder to talk about when it comes to the younger generations. It seems like so many adults are under the mindset that just because someone is young, that they can’t develop depression. Sadly, that isn’t always the case. Too many kids develop depression at such a young age, and so many of them go as far as taking their own life because they don’t think that they can handle their depression any longer.

Within the last few months, Netflix released the first season of an original series based on a book by Jay Asher. “13 Reasons Why” helps to show just how dangerous it could possibly be to not see the warning signs of depression and/or suicide in the younger generation. Hannah, though her signs seemed to be very subtle, could’ve been prominent enough for her to get the help she needed if those around her would’ve known what signs they should’ve been looking for, not necessarily in Hannah, but just in general in those who are about Hannah’s age. Sometimes the signs can be too hard to see in certain situations.

I feel it is important that everyone educates themselves on the warning signs of depression in those around them. I also feel it is important to know what the warning signs of suicidal actions may be as well. Though it isn’t always possible to catch warning signs in time for some, it is still important to know what the warning signs may be in case it is possible to get someone help in time. No one should have to deal with their depression alone, and I don’t think it’s fair that anyone should feel like they have to take their own life as a result of feeling like they can’t handle their depression anymore.

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.

We all have a love hate relationship with winter, lets be real here. The snow makes people forget how to drive, its cold, the roads are bad, and chances are, you will be spending a lot more money than you do during the other months of the year. If you’re from the Midwest, it seems to be that winter lasts for what feels like forever. But despite the struggles that winter brings, there are so many things to love about it.

The Post Thanksgiving Panic And Anxiety

It happens to all of us, the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas the catch up with you.

Thanksgiving Break is most likely everyone’s favorite break during the fall semester. You get to go home and reminisce with all your high school friends. That diet you’ve been on for the past month goes out the window, and you get to eat until you put yourself into a food coma. There’s no rush on homework and you can just lie in bed and Netflix to your heart’s content. To me that sounds like an ideally wonderful break, and totally stress-free.
