It's officially a brand new year, and a brand new semester! While this still might not be a traditional semester, there's no better time than the present to put your best foot forward. Here are a few tips you can follow to make sure you have a successful college semester.

1. Get yourself a planner.

I absolutely love my digital planner from Etsy. It's so beautiful, and it's filled with so many different pages. It has a month and week overview, as well as day planners and to-do lists. My planner is absolutely perfect for writing down upcoming assignments and deadlines!

2. Nourish and hydrate yourself!

Though it might sound so simple, it really is important to make sure you have all three meals so you can have energy and retain more information! Drink plenty of water too, water has many great benefits for us college students!

3. Input all of your class meetings, assignments, and exam dates in your calendar. Now.

Sitting down with your syllabi and putting everything in your calendar early will help you later in the semester when you're swamped with assignments! Lay everything out early so you don't forget a thing.

4. Carry snacks with you.

Giphy

Sometimes you just need a snack in between classes, make sure you're always prepared and carry some snacks with you.

5. Try to avoid distractions!

Giphy

Though you may or may not be in a classroom this semester, try to give your full attention to your classes. For example, let's try not to scroll through Twitter while we're in lecture.

6. Get to know your professors!

Your professors are people too, and they miss the traditional classes just as much as you do! They've been teaching to a screen for a while now. Engage and reach out to them.

7. Ask for help when you need it.

Giphy

Don't be afraid to ask your professors a question, chances are, someone else has the same question. If not the professors, ask a teaching assistant, or check if your school has resources such as online tutoring.

8. Get active!

Get moving! Whether it's playing a recreational sport or simply walking, there are many benefits to being active as a college student. (One of which is a sharper memory!!)

9. Schedule a meeting with your advisor!

Giphy

If you feel a little lost or even if you don't, meeting with your advisor just to check-in and make sure you're on the right path is always great! They can keep you updated on internships, study abroad programs, and scholarships - as well as making sure you're where you need to be!

10. Make a solid workspace.

You'll need a designated workspace to get your work done. Invest some time in making your space to your liking, and make sure you'll be able to get work done. Whether that's adding a candle or some plants, make it to your style!

11. Stay organized.

Giphy

Keep your stuff organized. Use highlighters, planners, notebooks (even digital notebook covers) to keep yourself organized!

12. Invest in blue light blocking glasses.

Since you'll be spending plenty of time on the screen, invest in some blue light blocking headaches! They really do reduce headaches and eye strain, I swear by them. Find some on Amazon here.

13. Take care of yourself.

Giphy

Listen to your body. When you're tired, rest. When you're hungry, eat. Remember to pace yourself and take care of your mental and physical health.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
