Maybe you didn't realize it as a child, but there are many subliminal messages in animated shows. The two television channels that these types of messages appear in are “Cartoon Network”, and Nickelodeon. Here are some of the hidden things most people do not catch when watching these cartoons.
Spongebob Squarepants
Spongebob says Patrick’s ‘genius’ is showing. Patrick immediately grabs himself between his legs and replies “Where?” Clearly, Patrick thought his “male parts” were showing. Another message was in the episode "Gary takes a Bath". When Spongebob goes up the stairs and approaches the tub, he reaches for the soap. When he places them on the ground, he says “Look, Doubloons! Don’t drop ‘em.” Then he winks. An adult joke was implied in this episode about jail mean not dropping the soap in the shower or they could get molested from behind. This is not socially accepted in a child’s cartoon.
Hey Arnold
Arnold has a conversation with his grandpa. Arnold says “You’re not too old Grandpa. And you’ve still got plenty of brain cells. The grandpa replies “No, not since Woodstock”. Woodstock was a three day concert that had lots of sex, drugs, and rock music.
Rocko's Modern Life
Rocko went to go and pick berries. Rocko manages to grab the wrong one and a creature jumps out holding his groin. What did Rocko grab? Based on the behavior of the creature, he grabbed his testicle.
Powerpuff Girls
Professor, Bubbles, and her friend Robyn have a conversation. Professor introduces himself. Bubbles then tells Robyn “We were made in a laboratory by accident.” Robyn replies “It’s okay professor, I was an accident too”. This implies that Robyn’s parents did not plan for their daughter to be born, and could be a result of a broken condom or unprotected sex.
Chowder
Chowder has an ice cream cone. Mr. Cone says “Buddy, hear me here. Just make a hole and suck the ice cream out.” Chowder says “I like the way you think, Mr. Cone.” Then the cone replies Tell that to my wife.”
Though these are considered inappropriate. The messages are more for capturing the attention of adults rather than children. So keep an eye on what you watch! Especially in the presence of younger children.
