A Small List Created In Reflection of High School

Stupid Things We Did In High School

A couple of weeks ago, I finally graduated high school, bringing that awful, crazy, yet fun chapter of life to a close. Like most recent graduates, I’m really looking forward to what the future holds for me in these next few years in college. Yet, at the same time it’s hard not to look back upon some of the stupid and cringe-worthy moments all my peers and I had faced in these past 4 years. So I created a list of 5 stupid things that many high school students live and learn from.

1. Spending every cent you make.

Junior and Senior year of high school is usually when most students decide that they need to get a job because some of the things that they want are not going to be paid for by their parents anymore. Now don’t get me wrong, a good amount of my friends were smart from the beginning and constantly saved their money for their future. But most of my friends and I spent all of our money on food, clothes and going out and doing things, and then ran out of money before our next paycheck and are stuck until the next payday. Save, save, save.

2. Boy/ Girl crazy.

It stinks not having a significant other when it seems like EVERYONE else has someone, but it’s not the end of the world. Its better not to wallow for hours about being "forever alone". There’s no need to be over dramatic. We get it, and we’ve heard you complain about it before.

3. Becoming a slacker.

Senioritis is a well-known and highly contagious illness that we all fall prey to. Once you’re a second semester senior, grades don’t matter anymore, right? You still have to send in your final transcripts to wherever you are going for school, and they do look at them. For most, grades don’t drop that much your last semester of high school, but some do fall off the deep-end and are going to have to make up for it in one way or another. Summer school- eek!

4. Hating someone because your friends hate them.

Because high school can be very dramatic, there may be some people that you know that aren’t your friends’ favorite and whom they may dislike. And while its good to have your friend’s back and stick with them, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to hate the people they hate. What has that person done to you personally for you to hate them? For all you know they could be nice, and you can maybe be their friend too. After all, all your friends don’t all have to be friends with each other.

5. Doing things because other people are doing them.

Being a teenager is all about finding out who you are as a person. And because of that there’s no need to feel “peer pressure” to do anything that you don’t want to. I know its cliché, but it is important for you to do you, and not care what others think.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
