Stress, in more ways than one, is the definition of college. Stress to finish your assignments on time. Stress to ace your tests. Stress to be involved on campus. Stress to get an internship. It is everywhere. The key, friends, is to not allow it to consume you.
How do you overcome it, you ask? You take life one day at a time. You get as much done as you can early in the week, because inevitably as the week progresses you become less effective. Also, who wants to do homework on the weekends? If you focus on school during the week and do a little studying and a little homework each day, then the amount of work you have to do doesn’t seem so all-consuming.
Similarly, you have to pick and choose the social events and obligations you can attend each week. I suggest investing in a planner so you can keep a record of your entire life schedule. It truly does wonders.
Stress cannot be completely overcome, but we can employ tactics to minimize the effects of it. For example, when I feel as if I am going to be consumed by school work or eaten alive by all of my obligations, I go for a walk around the lakes or brew a cup of deliciously soothing coffee.
Some people choose to eat their favorite meal and some choose to listen to music. Find whatever helps you decompress and do that whenever it feels as if the stress is going to choke you. In the midst of your insane schedules enjoy a sunset, laugh with a friend, and enjoy the beautiful days we are given.
College is full of stress, but it is also overflowing with unforgettable life moments. You can go hiking with your friends, take an adventure to New Orleans which could have you walking under a bridge barefoot at night or witnessing a tree falling, or just take an excursion to the theater to see a movie and crunch on some popcorn.
Our time here is too short to be drowned by the downfall of stress, so take it easy friends. School is extremely important, yes, but it is not everything. Seize the day.
