Stuffed Noses and Sore Throats Miles Away From Home

What do you mean I have to make my own soup?

Stuffed Noses and Sore Throats Miles Away From Home

I think we can all agree that if the plague suddenly sneaks up on you that you would want to be home for when it does. However, you cant always get what you want. Being sick away from home is for sure not fun. Being sick in general isn't fun, but when you have to take care of yourself it makes it that much worse. Here are some reasons why being sick at college is the absolute worst

1) You have to shop and cook for yourself: When all you want to do is kick back and have mom make you something warm to eat and to go out and buy you Tylenol. You have to be your own mom and do it all yourself.

2) You have no one to complain to: you can only complain to your roommates so many times, but with your parents, you feel like the complaining has no limits. They suck it up and listen to how you think you're never going to get better

3) Driving yourself to the doctor: Before you jump on me about how I'm twenty years old and still need my mom to come the doctor with me, just know that having company at the doctors office makes going a whole lot easier. Sitting in the waiting room by yourself not only feels more like a drag, it's just depressing.

4) Deprived of the extra care: Parents just want to make sure there child gets better as fast as they can. It's hard to be deprived of the reminders to take care of yourself, drink water, keep on medications, etc. I can almost guarantee i won't remember to prompt my pillow up, i'm just waiting for mom to come into my room.

5) Trying to concentrate on homework while being sick just seems to be set up for a fail. Regardless of your deprived sleep schedule, that paper is still due in two days.

If only we can pick a week out of the calendar to sacrifice ourselves to be sick, but unfortunately we know that isn't the case. There will be days when you are homesick, especially the days where you are too sick to get out of bed. I may not remember every single thing my mom told me to do when I am sick, but i do know that mom is a call away... and I have made it this far.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
