At this point in the semester, you're most likely yearning for it to be over. You feel like you're constantly getting new assignments, and you can barely keep up anymore. But at the same time, this is crunch time. This is the point where you have to give it your all even when you feel like giving up all together. You have to pull through and make up for any bad grades in the beginning of the semester, so it's time to put your nose to the books! While this is a very sad realization, here are a few study tips that can make your life as a student just a little bit easier.

Use an agenda... religiously.

The most important thing you can do in college is stay organized. If you use a planner and write down every detail of your academic life (and your personal life, if you choose), there is absolutely no way you will ever forget an assignment or important deadline.

Schedule everything.

Make lots of lists. You may be very overwhelmed with all of the work that keeps rotating around in your mind, but if you plan out what you are going to do when, then you will be relieving yourself of a lot of stress. And checking things off is a great feeling.

Organize your books and notes.

You won't be able to get any studying done if you can't even figure out where you put your notes. So, stay organized and make sure there is a place for everything. This way, when you need to get down to business, you're good to go.

Use different colored pens and highlighters.

This may seem a little silly, but color coding can help a lot. Using different colored highlighters and pens allows you to prioritize and categorize your studying. It also makes your notes easier to look at because it prevents everything from blending together.

Always have an unlimited supply of notecards.

Notecards are a very simple and straightforward way to study. It is good to be able to separate your material into different topics and compartmentalize whatever subject you are studying into sections. Notecards also allow you to quiz yourself, which is always quick and effective.

Find a quiet, go-to concentration place.

You will never be able to focus if you're constantly surrounded by noise and distraction. Make sure you have a quiet place where you can always go if you are in panic and desperately need to be productive.

Give yourself a break every once in awhile.

Yes, studying is important and this time in the semester is absolutely crucial. However, no good comes from over-working yourself. You have to make sure to give yourself a break every once in awhile and give yourself something to look forward to.

Happy studying!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
