I woke up this morning to a soothing darkness that almost lulled me back to sleep. The world felt calm and cool. Being the pluviophile that I am, I didn't want to lift my head from my pillow for anything - not even if there was a fire in the building. The urge to enjoy a rainy day off instead of going to classes seemed to be yanking at my body, and it was all I could do to keep my eyes open to violently tap the "off" button on my cell phone's alarm feature.
I've always loved rainy days, and nothing makes me happier than waking up to drizzly, wet weather. I suppose the reason why I love these days is the same reason why we all seem to love fall: it means comfy and cozy clothing. There's nothing like wrapping your hands around a hot drink (hello pumpkin spice latte...) and settling in with your favorite book or Netflix show.
It isn't the same feeling during the summer or spring. During those seasons, you either want to be out and about doing things. Or, you may feel obligated to do so because of the oh-so-great weather. During fall or a downcast day, you have a rare pass to do absolutely nothing and just watch the rain skirt by your window in your comfiest of comfy clothes. And, in a very fast-paced world, those opportunities come few and far between. At least it can still rain in spring or summer. The coolness of those days are some of my absolute favorites...
Even though I felt like I was pulling my own teeth, I dragged myself out of bed and went to school, battling the weather as I went. I was well prepared for the chilliness and the dampness, so I didn't feel too sorry for myself walking to class. Of course, rain is no fun if you have to walk anywhere, but the feeling of peeling off your damp clothes at the end of the day and slipping into your favorite comfy clothes makes the whole ordeal worthwhile. You subtly thank the rain gods for bestowing this perfectly placed R+R day onto you.
